Chief People Officer

Office for National Statistics | £100,000 + Civil Service Pension | Flexible UK Locations

About the Role

Step into a pivotal leadership position at the UK’s largest producer of official statistics. As Chief People Officer, you will lead the People Function for both the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and the Office for Statistics Regulation (OSR), shaping HR and organisational development strategies that empower a skilled, engaged, and flexible workforce. You’ll be a trusted adviser to the Permanent Secretary and Executive Board, providing strategic direction on people and property matters, and driving the development of high-quality people strategies to deliver long-term organisational aims. Your remit also includes leading Estates and Property Services, ensuring our offices across the UK support our mission and values.

Key Responsibilities

You will act as a strategic partner to senior leaders, developing innovative approaches to people, estate, and property management based on a deep understanding of organisational needs. Your leadership will inspire and empower a team of 157 colleagues, overseeing a £19m budget and a wide range of responsibilities across the employee lifecycle, including resourcing, workforce planning, talent management, reward, learning, engagement, culture, and health and safety. Building positive relationships with stakeholders, customers, and suppliers, you will enable the continued support and development of ONS and the UK Statistics Authority. You’ll provide HR Leadership to the Analysis Function and Government Statistical Service to deliver our work and improve outcomes for 17k colleagues across government.

Your Impact

In this role, you will shape the future of people strategy and organisational culture at a national level. Your influence will ensure ONS and OSR have the capability and capacity to deliver their strategic objectives, fostering an inclusive, high-performing environment where employees thrive. By championing collaboration and innovation, you will help build a resilient, agile workforce ready to meet the challenges of tomorrow. Your leadership will be instrumental in driving positive change, enhancing employee engagement, and strengthening the reputation of the organisation.
