Meath County Council is the primary unit of Local Government in County Meath. The Council is responsible for the delivery of a wide range of public services in Meath, with an overarching vision to “Make Meath Even Better”. This is through a focus on making it the lead county for economic prosperity, social development and environmental protection, with efficient and good value services and a Council representing the people and communities of County Meath in an effective and accountable manner.

The Council is one of the county’s major employers, currently employing approximately 1,060 staff. The Council’s Revenue Budget for 2026 is €258m and its 3-year rolling Capital Programme 2026-2028 has an estimated spend of €1.24b.

Meath County Council’s mission is to drive the economic, social, cultural and environmental improvement of the county to enhance the quality of life of the people of Meath.

An opportunity now exists in Meath County Council for the position of Senior Executive Officer.

Job Summary/Description:

The Senior Executive Officer reports to a Director of Services and is responsible for the efficient management, direction and development of the department and function to which they are assigned. They work within defined parameters relevant to the position, in accordance with the Council’s vision and objectives as set out in the Corporate Plan.

Delivery of efficient services and value for money is crucial.

The Senior Executive Officer is responsible for leading on policy implementation, service delivery and change management in a dynamic and goal driven environment. The role offers the opportunity to demonstrate leadership, innovation, agility and a commitment to customer service. The Senior Executive Officer is required to work closely with the Senior Management Team and Elected Members to deliver the full range of services, implement local policy decisions and deliver on strategic corporate objectives.
