We are recruiting for Members for our People and Purpose Committee

People will always need our help. You could play an important part in making sure we can always be there to answer that call.

We are looking for passionate and experienced individuals to join our newly established People and Purpose Committee. The RNLI Board has appointed 3 trustees to the People and Purpose Committee, with Fiona Fell as Chair and Jo Danton and Mark Wordsworth as members. The Committee is now seeking to recruit external experts to join them.

A successful applicant will have strategic people leadership, experience in transformation and cultural change along with talent management and succession planning skills and an understanding of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. The panel is particularly interested in those who bring one of the following:

·       Employment law

·       Workforce planning and training

·       Employee and or Volunteer Engagement.

Understanding or experience of volunteering and charity experience are helpful but not essential for this role.

The impact you will make

This is a significant opportunity to contribute to the RNLI’s mission. The People and Purpose Committee will play a vital role in supporting the Board on strategic people matters that underpin the delivery of the RNLI’s charitable purpose.

The Committee’s responsibilities will include oversight and consideration of volunteer and staff strategies, organisational culture, workforce and skills planning, and horizon scanning for emerging external trends and events that may impact our people. The Committee will work alongside our other Board Committees: Audit and Risk; Safety, Operational Assurance and Risk; Remuneration; Membership and Nomination; and Ireland.

You will be someone who truly champions our One Crew philosophy through recognising and supporting our volunteer and staff activity.

This is an unpaid voluntary opportunity within the RNLI. Travel and subsistence costs will be reimbursed in line with RNLI policy. Meetings can be attended in person or remotely as agreed.

Our staff and volunteers have been saving lives at sea without prejudice for over 200 years. We respect and value diversity of background, skills and perspectives within our teams, and consider it essential to help us deliver a world-class lifesaving service. We are an inclusive organisation and welcome applications from everyone.

In addition to having the skills needed for the role, we also look for applicants who share our commitment to living our RNLI values (trustworthy, courageous, selfless, and dependable) and working towards our vision of saving every one. This involves a growing commitment
to preventative action, using our expertise to work in partnership with communities locally, nationally, and internationally to prevent drowning.

To apply, please go online to RNLI.org/governance to find the opportunity and Role Description and attach a copy of your CV, together with a covering letter explaining how you demonstrate the criteria and what you would bring to the role. The closing date for this role is Wednesday, 11th November.

Interviews are expected to take place in person in London on 7th and 9th December.

Further information on the RNLI can be viewed on our website at https://rnli.org/about-us. If you would like further information before applying for this role, please email gov_recruitment@rnli.org.uk.
