Your new role
Reporting directly to the HR Director, you will play a pivotal role in providing additional capacity during a sensitive period of organisational change. You will support the delivery of a staff restructuring and potential redundancy programme, acting as the HR Director’s key operational partner while ensuring the school’s reputation and high management standards are upheld. Working closely with the HR Director, you will:
- Support the finalisation of a business case for organisational change, ensuring alignment with financial sustainability and staffing needs.
- Conduct file‑based research to inform planning activities.
- Help develop standard documentation to support both restructuring activity and business‑as‑usual HR processes.
- Assist in preparing for and holding collective and individual consultation meetings.
- Provide guidance to managers on meaningful engagement with staff representatives and unions.
- Take accurate, professional notes during meetings and maintain well‑organised, up‑to‑date records.
- Advise managers on procedural and logistical aspects of the programme.
- Maintain an up‑to‑date FAQ document and produce regular staff newsletters using content from colleagues.
- Manage a shared inbox, responding promptly to queries and calls related to the programme.
- Support the HR Director in managing selection criteria, ensuring fairness and best practice.
- Assist with the calculation and quality checking of redundancy payments.
- Monitor progress against programme timelines, raising risks or slippage promptly.
- Work with external legal advisors to ensure all actions meet required standards and insurer expectations.
- Use your employment law expertise to identify and mitigate risks relating to process or consistency.
- Provide practical and, when appropriate, emotional support to managers during the change process.
- Offer empathetic, professional support to affected staff within the scope of the HR role.
What you'll need to succeed
This post will suit a highly capable, empathetic and experienced HR Advisor to support a significant organisational change programme. This day‑rate interim assignment offers the opportunity to work closely with senior leaders during a critical period of transformation, ensuring a fair, compliant and well‑supported experience for managers and employees. Ideally, you are CIPD‑qualified. You also need:
- Solid experience at HR Advisor level or above.
- Proven experience working to project plans.
- Demonstrable experience supporting managers through redundancy processes and/or exit conversations.
- Proven track record of producing accurate, timely meeting notes and formal correspondence.
- Strong team working ethos and interpersonal skills at all levels.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving ability.
- Highly organised with the ability to prioritise a varied workload.
- Proactive, with strong ownership of responsibilities and outcomes.
- High integrity and respect for confidential information.
- Flexible, pragmatic and adaptable to different communication styles.
